Actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez, along with special guest, Murray Langston, The Unknown Comic, will be bringing his quick wit and hilarious standup style to the Riviera Hotel & Casino’s Starlite Theatre, performing Wednesday-Sunday, August 31-September 11.

Revered as one of the first Latin Kings of Comedy, Rodriguez has spent over 40 years making audiences laugh all over the world in English and Spanish. His first big break came while doing comedy warm-ups for Norman Lear's show “Gloria” and has had a successful career since then with starring roles and featured appearances in more than 40 films and countless television shows and comedy specials.

As an accomplished writer, director and producer for television, motion pictures and feature shows, Rodriguez executive produced in the comedy concert film “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy,” in which he starred with Cheech Marin, George Lopez and Carlos Mencia. In addition to many other successful television and film projects, Rodriguez also wrote, directed and starred in the comedy, “A Million to Juan” and six comedy specials for HBO including "Loco Slam," "Live in San Quentin" and "Idiots and Armadillos," which he also executive produced.

Langston is best known for his comic performances on “The Gong Show” usually appearing with a paper bag over his head and thus became “The Unknown Comic.” Langston’s career began in 1970 when he appeared on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” and proceeded with appearances on many more series, including “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,” “The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show,” “The Wolfman Show” and “The Bobby Vinton Show.” Additionally, Langston wrote material for Joan Rivers, Jim Carrey, Ruth Buzzi and many other comedians as well created comedic situations for “Candid Camera” and appeared in several of his own segments.

Gary Lewis like his father, comedian Jerry Lewis, skyrocketed to fame at a young age. While playing in their first job at Disneyland, Gary Lewis and The Playboys were discovered in the summer of 1964 by producer Snuff Garret. Soon after, they produced their first hit single “This Diamond Ring.” Continued success ensued for Gary Lewis and The Playboys with several more Top 10 hits including “Count Me In,” “Save Your Heart for Me,” “Everybody Loves a Clown,” “She’s Just My Style,” “Sure Gonna Miss Her” and many more. In addition to appearing on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “American Bandstand,” “Hullabaloo,” “The Tonight Show” and other shows, Lewis was named Cash Box magazine’s “Male Vocalist of the Year,” winning the honor against other nominees Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra in 1965.

As a part of the great 60s band The Buckinghams, Dennis Tufano, the original lead singer of the group, had a string of five Top 10 hits including “Kind of a Drag,” “Don’t You Care,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Susan” and “Back in Love Again.” Following his success in The Buckinghams, Tufano was part of the song-writing duo, Tufano and Giammarese, and recorded three albums with Lou Adler's custom label, Ode Records. He has also performed and co-written with Elton John’s lyricist, Bernie Taupin, and renowned composer and musician Tom Scott. The multi-talented actress, producer and recording artist Connie Stevens will take the stage at Riviera Hotel & Casino performing with accomplished actor and comedian John Byner. Stevens and Byner will appear for a limited engagement July 6 through July 17 in the Starlite Theatre.

With a career in the entertainment industry spanning over 50 years, Stevens’ musical career began when she first sang in a group called The Three Debs at the age of 16 and then proceeded to record as a solo artist with the Warner Bros Records. Stevens recorded major hits in the 1960s including “Kookie Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb),” a duet with Edd Byrnes and “Sixteen Reasons.” In her starring role on the hit series, “Hawaiian Eye,” Stevens propelled to fame as of one of America’s teen idols in the ‘60s. Her television work also includes “Maverick” as well as “77 Sunset Strip,” “Wendy and Me” with George Burns and several other television roles. Over the years, Stevens’ film work included roles in films such as “Rock-A-Bye Baby,” “Parish,” “The Grissom Gang,” “Grease 2,” “Tapeheads” and many more.

Hailed as a “Man of a Thousand Impressions,” Byner’s stand-up comedy career began in New York’s Greenwich Village at Max Gordon’s jazz club, Village Vanguard. He then went on to open for some of the finest jazz greats and followed with opening and headlining stints across the country including Basin Street East, Copacabana, The Rainbow Room and at Las Vegas showrooms such as Harrah’s, The Sahara, The Sands as well as Riviera’s Comedy Club. Byner’s television career began on Merv Griffin’s “Talent Scouts Show” in 1964 and success ensued with appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson over the next 10 years. Little’s last Vegas engagement was in 2008 and he has since toured the country, performing his standup routine “Will the Real Rich Little Please Stand Up.” He has also made several stops performing his one-man play “Jimmy Stewart and Friends,” which he wrote himself over the course of several years, where he performs 25 characters on the life of Stewart. Little plans on one day bringing his play to Broadway.

I wanted to mention to you in all sincerity that we were a little concerned as we had read several less that positive reviews written by people who had stayed and played at the Riviera. We were both confused regarding those reviews after our very positive experience. We were there ten days. Every single staff member with whom we had contact was extremely polite,professional and anxious to please. The rooms were outstanding and the casino, elevators, hallways etc. were clean and very comfortable. The restaurants were reasonable and the food was delightful. We will be back !

BTW... I did my duty and posted my reflections on the hotel reviews. :o)

Hi Perry,

Just wanted to thank you again for all you do for us while we are in Vegas. We made it home safe and sound but the area had lots of flooding while we were gone. It even made CNN news this morning! It was mostly around the Wisconsin River area and we are about 18 miles from there so we are in good shape out here in the country. This morning the ground was white with frost and we even turned the furnace on just to warm the house up a little. I heard you will be back in the triple numbers again today. No furnace for you I guess haha. Thanks again for the great time you always give us when we visit. Oh yes, I took 11th place in the tourney and made $500 in free slot play and was surprised to see that. The banquet meal was super again and the whole doings were put together without a hitch as usual. The Riv sure knows how to make people feel at home. What is it made of I want one. stop laughing I am serious lol. You see I have a bad back and being a pool player does not help the situation any. While I was there, not once did I get up with back pain and that's because of how comfortable your beds are. So on behalf of my back. My husband and I have been married for 27 years. He has never liked going on vacation but about 5 years ago, our daughter and son-in-law convinced him (and me) to go with them on a weekend trip to Las Vegas. We booked our rooms at the Riv. We had a wonderful time and have never forgotten it (and have not had a vacation since...). So, when I got the chance to attend a medical seminar in Vegas, I naturally picked the Riviera as the place to book my room (even though the seminar is at the Palms).

Russ has played the Stanford Comedy House and Laffs Club circuits (he owns Laffs in Albuquerque), as well as foggy Bottoms in Lubbock, Texas, Pepperonis in Sioux City, Iowa, and Wise Crackers in Kankakee, Illinois. Rivas’ television credits include KTLA’s “Comedy Compadres,” PBS’ “Miss Fiesta Pageant” and Statewide Colorado’s “Hispanic Education Telethon.”

Larry Brown has one of those faces that “you must have seen somewhere before.” In fact, he has done plenty of television, film, commercials and stand-up comedy. He has performed on “Late Night With David Letterman” as well as on Showtime and Comedy Central and has also appeared in Pepsi and Microsoft commercials.

Rob Sherwood was born in New York, raised in Florida and now a resident of Las Vegas. Sherwood is a comedy veteran, having performed stand-up since the late 70s. His many Vegas credits include Bally’s “Catch A Rising Star,” The Tropicana’s “Comedy Stop” and The Aladdin’s “Comedy Underground.”

Entertaining…Action-packed…Enthralling

We had heard about a new show at the Riviera—called DAO—but were not sure what to expect. What an extraordinary performance! After attending the performance, we had to write about this show for two reasons: First, to thank and congratulate the performers for an awesome experience and, second, to help spread the word that this is a show that should not be missed. From the beginning of the show until its end, we were treated to non-stop action which included mesmerizing acrobatics, intriguing martial arts routines, and integrated dancing—as well as lighter moments of fun. The smaller scale of the theater gave the show an intimate feeling. The colorful costumes and unusual props kept one’s eyes from wandering from the action on the stage—as well as added to the mystique of the performance.

Hou’s performance on the stack of chairs brought both an air of suspense (as he climbed precariously higher and higher) and an admiration of the acrobatic skills that he has acquired since he began his training as a small child. One could swear that the young contortionist has no bones in her lithe body as she bent, folded, and twisted into unbelievable positions. Those performing the martial arts routines provided moments of dazzling suspense during the show. The entire troupe filled the stage as they flew across it. Each used his/her skills to enhance the performance of the entire troupe. What came across is how well they work as a team and the mutual respect that they have for one another. All of these performers (or should we say athletes) began their training at an early age and have completed intensive training at special acrobat schools in China.

The performers gathered to meet the audience after the show and posed for a group picture for us. They were most gracious in their display of warmth and hospitality as we introduced ourselves. Later, during our stay at the Riviera, we encountered members of the troupe outside the venue (without their costumes) and were charmed by their interaction with us. We have traveled widely and seen many performances, but DAO will always remain one of the highlights of the shows that we have seen!

My recent visit to the Riv

I just returned from a trip to the Riv(3/4-3/7) and wanted to comment on it. I have been coming to the Riv for 25 years. Even though LV is going through some tough times, I (and my mother-in-law --a 1st time visitor) had one of the best times ever! I probably spent 90% of my time at the tables and had a wonderful time with the group that frequented the Let It Ride and 3Card Poker tables. The visit kicked off very positively with a gift basket in my room from Dean Musillo, my designated host. He made all the arrangements for the trip and did a great job. My guest was so impressed! Jim Carrabis, while not my designated host, took care of us while we were at the tables and we found him to be very thoughtful, generous and entertaining. The Pit Bosses were excellent and outgoing especially Denny and Paul. They are some of the most efficient and friendliest in Vegas! I personally cnt stand the stuffy folks at many other casinos. The dealers were extremely friendly and entertaining and even managed to deal some pretty cool hands! While I can't recall all the "nice dealers" I had, the ones that are easy to remember are Coline, Sandy, Joe and Joe, Enrico, Bruce, Yang, Pat, Ginger, Micky, Katy, Al and Holly. I especially found Coline, Bruce and the Joes to be too funny!! Each of these individuals is an absolute asset to the Riv! I also want to commend 2 others individuals.....Taryn is the most outgoing waitperson for this trip. She is so attentive and fun to deal with! I also wanted to mention that each day you had some afternoon floor entertainment that really makes the casino experience more enjoyable. Each did a great job but I, and the others at the table with me, really enjoyed Mark. He was Awesome! As I said, I continue to come to the Riv because your folks do an excellent job. But this time, the staff reaaly stood out! I always recommend the Riv to everyone and will continue to do so. QUEEN VICTORIA’S BRITISH PUB OPENS JUNE 28

Queen Victoria’s British Pub will welcome guests on June 28 for pints, footy and bangers as we celebrate the 173 anniversary of Queen Victoria’s coronation. J.J. was the first comedian to incorporate a “dating game” into his comedy routine with hysterical results. In addition, he has headlined at major comedy clubs and the college circuit throughout the country. J.J. has appeared on NBC Radio’s “The Howard Stern Show,” and ABC Radio’s “The Alan Colms Show.”

Chris Voth appeared in three seasons of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and was chosen for the prestigious Great American Comedy Festival in 2009. A 10-year comedy veteran, Voth is also a past winner of the Miller Lite Comedy Competition of Denver and has worked with everyone from Dave Chappelle to Linda Ronstadt. Voth released his first comedy CD in 2008, entitled “Never Mind the Jim J. Bullocks, Here Comes Chris Voth.”

The singer’s recording of “Everything I Own” was the highest charting new artist release and highest charting release on an independent label (airplay charts) of 2009. London scored back to back Top 5 singles on the FMQB Adult Contemporary Radio Chart. London also made Music Connection Magazine’s list of Hot 100 Artists of 2009.

In 2008, he appeared in the independent film “The Dukes,” playing a member of a washed up doo-wop group that turns, comically, to a life of crime. His cohorts are Chazz Palmenteri, two time Academy Award nominee Peter Bogdanovich and renowned character actor Robert Davi (“Die Hard,” “Profiler”), who wrote, directed and co-produced the film.

Headliner John DiCrosta is anything but boring. Dozens of voices, off-beat impressions, topical humor, sight gags, a few props, and sometimes even ventriloquism are among the tricks this comedian has up his sleeve.

I was there for 2 nights after a trade show I was in town for.
There was minor mix-up on my reservation which the Host took care of professionally and right away. Reserved a smoking room and yes, those have not been remodeled and are a bit tired, but clean and no issues. (I have also been there in the remodeled non-smoking rooms and they are GREAT!)

The casino staff was OUTSTANDING!! Most of them have been there for 20-30 years and it was great hearing some of the stories and the history.
I love that this is a "sole property" and not part of a huge chain where you are truly just a number.

I played blackjack most of the time and both nights was offered a comp for, not the buffet, but Kristofer's Steak House. It was wonderful and made me feel like a "high roller" I was there to gamble and they rewarded my play. Period. No huge corporate checklist or computer program to go off of. Real, live people treating someone well.
That alone has earned my loyalty and is far more important to me than a slightly tired smoking room (hey, it's just another cost of smoking...)

I would recommend this hotel and casino to any and all looking to be treated (on the floor) like you mean something.
